Badly Made Books

The overall winner for this inaugural award was Badly Made Books from Cork while skincare and wellness brand Nunaia from Tipperary and home accessories brand Kopper Kreation from Dublin were highly commended in this category.

Irish brands are extremely well placed when it comes to producing sustainable goods with many of the brands at the show making their products themselves or with small teams from natural and sustainable materials, while other emerging brands are coming from the standpoint of doing things from a sustainable perspective from the outset in terms of circular design, the use sustainable or minimal packaging and the use of local, biodegradable or sustainable materials.

Badly Made Books, winner of the very first Sustainable Award at Showcase is a great example. The brand’s slogan is “Our Books Are Rubbish” which reflects not just the humour but the ethos inherent to the brand. All of their products are made from recycled materials with their latest products being made of 98 percent recycled materials including the award-winning Think Outside the Box notebook. Stand C62.

Nunaia

This brand is fast becoming renowned not just for its products which are all vegan, ethical and organic but also for its contemporary approach to packaging. The product which received the award at Showcase was the Skin and Soul Renewal Set which is packed in a very unique packaging designed by founder of Nunaia Nicola Connolly.  Nunaia are the first company in Ireland, and one of the first in the world, to develop mycelium packaging grown from the root of mushrooms (a carbon negative material) and even their display stand at the show features shelving made of the same mycelium material. Stand J82.
