Doireann Healy launched sustainable art and fashion brand Begley & Bowie in 2019. Based in Kenmare, Co.Kerry the illustrator and screen printer designs all of her smile-inducing pieces, from clothing to fine art prints, herself in her shop and studio in the town.
Doireann set up Begley & Bowie to create a contemporary form of Irish design celebrating Ireland from it's people, playwrights, and artists to places whilst using sustainable materials.
Doireann works on commission also and designs for other brands and businesses.
This year she was approached by the team at Adare Manor to design hotel merchandise in time for the Pro-Am in July. Doireann designed an adult range based on the detailed building's gargoyles and a children's range based on the Teidí sculpture on the grounds of Adare Manor which was created by the renowned Irish sculptor Patrick O' Reilly.
Doireann was also commissioned by Dromoland Castle Hotel to design a range of merchandise in time for the Ladies Irish Open in September, with one design based on the castle building and the other based on the incredible history of Dromoland Castle which has links to Brian Boru, Marconi, the Beatles and more.
Doireann subsequently went on to win the Rising Star Award at the IDI Awards this November for her work on the above designs.
The same month she was also nominated for a VIP Award.
Since launching Doireann has been invited by the fashion team at Brown Thomas to be a part of Create for the last two years. For this year's Create she designed an illustrated Dublin print in the form of a colourful cultural map of Dublin screen printed on hoodies, sweatshirts and t-shirts. It featured some favourites including Phil Lynott, Oscar Wilde, James Joyce, the Abbey Theatre and more.
Doireann was subsequently approached by the National Gallery of Ireland and this print along with her rainbow hoodies and Dublin slogan sweatshirts launched at the National Gallery shop in November.
She has worked with and designed for a host of brands includig JJ Corry Whiskey, Trump Doonbeg, ISG Kenmare, Lips & P's Boutique in Naas, Sweetpea Dingle, and Ensemble Mhúscraí Youth Orchestra.
